Exeter Ladies B stretch unbeaten run

Exeter & District Badminton League - Ladies’ Report - by Ben Boyland

In Division 3A, Exeter B’s Emily Macauley, Vicky Prouse, Laura Crawley and League new signing Nic Sillifant clinched a 4-2 win over Raleigh.  Raleigh’s points were scored by Sue Mayne in partnership with Debby Yates and Nicola Martin respectively.

Clyst Vale’s Imogen Batton, Diana Horne, Irene Newcombe and recent signing Amy Macherson beat Raleigh 6-0 without dropping a game.  “Good entertaining games” were reported by Clyst Vale after winning their first match of the season.

In Division 2, University’s Bethany Hunter, Georgie Stapleton, and Lucy Manley triumphed over Honiton 6-0 when Honiton were unable to field a fourth player.  However, a weakened University team suffered their first defeat of the season when they were unable to pick up a point against Otter Vale’s Teresa Simic, June Goode, Heather Rake and Sue O’Brien.

Ringswell B’s Anne Jones, Jeannette Allen, Di Brooker and Sharon Strong  enjoyed a 5-1 victory over Sidmouth.  Sidmouth’s point was relatively comfortably picked up by Yvonne Hudson and Ruth Scrivens.

In Division 1, Queens’ Helen Ward, Susie Colwill, Hannah Preece and Hannah Down drew 3-all Cranford’s Alice Feesey, Nikita Smethurst, Rowan Despard and April Richard.  All but one of the rubbers was decided over three ends with the closest rubber being won by Alice and April against Helen and Hannah Down 21-19, 20-22, 22-20.    Cranford therefore continue to lead the League by two points over rivals Queens.
